Diwali Decoration Ideas For Your Living Room

sonal gupta September 16, 2023

Lights are one of the most important parts of Diwali decor. They create a warm and beautiful ambience around the house.

Hanging a toran at the entrance of your home is another great idea for a festive vibe. These are available in a variety of colours, patterns and designs.

You can also make your own twine lampshades by dipping twine in glue, wrapping it around balloons and adding lights.

Floating Candles

Floating candles are a beautiful addition to any living room. These can be used on their own or in combination with other lighting options like lamps. The best part is that they are easy to make and don’t require any special skills. To create your own floating candle, simply draw a pattern on a rectangular piece of paper and cut it with scissors or prick it using a compass. Place the paper above a lamp, and light will shine through the patterned holes.

Another way to brighten up your home for Diwali is by adding scented candles. These can be placed in any corner of your home and will make it more appealing to the guests. They can also be gifted to friends and family. They come in a variety of scents, so you can choose the one that matches your taste.

Ethnic brass accessories can be a great addition to your home during Diwali. You can use them as centrepieces on your dining table or hang them from the ceiling to resemble chandeliers. They can be decorated with flowers and other pooja items to complete the look.

No Diwali decorating ideas are complete without lights and diyas. Add them to the windows, doors and balconies to bring in that festive feel. You can even try making rangolis on the doorsteps to welcome your guests with good luck.

Flower Garlands

This Diwali, make your guests feel special by decorating the living room with beautiful flower garlands. Flowers symbolize wealth, purity, and happiness, so they are perfect for any celebration. You can buy them from a store or make them yourself. They are also a great gift idea for any occasion.

If you don’t want to use flowers, you can try hanging a colorful canvas painting or an oil/water/watercolour painting. These paintings will add a touch of elegance to your home. They can be hung on the walls or in the center of the living room. Another great idea is to hang a dreamcatcher. The feathers in these items can be coloured to match the theme of your room.

You can also decorate your home with rangoli passageways. This is a classic Indian tradition, and it’s sure to add a festive touch to your living space.

You can even spruce up the balcony or garden area with lights and flowers to create a bright and cheerful atmosphere. Hanging lanterns or a set of LED candles can make your home look more inviting and festive. You can also add some herbs or dried petals for a floral accent.

Strings of Lights

For Diwali, light is an important element. You can use string LED lights, which are inexpensive and go well with the festival’s theme. These can be used to create a pattern or simply light up your house in a creative way.

You can also decorate your home with plants and flowers. These are an excellent choice for Diwali because they symbolize wealth and happiness. You can place them in decorative pots or hung them on walls. You can also add lush green foliage to your home with a temporary vertical garden. You can use geru, a plant that grows easily indoors, to make this attractive decoration idea for Diwali.

Floating candles in glass jars are another simple yet eye-catching Diwali decoration idea. You can buy jars online or simply use a jug with water to serve the purpose. Alternatively, you can paint these jars with gold paint to give them a dreamy look. You can also make a scented candle jar by mixing glitter and glue together and then painting the bottom half of the glass container with it.

Kandeel, or paper lanterns, is another easy decoration item that you can make at home. It was an essential part of Diwali in the past when people set them afloat on their front porch to welcome the spirits of their ancestors into their homes.

Floating Diyas

Diwali is all about flowers and lights, so you can use these two elements to make a statement on your walls, doors or windows. You can also use flowers to decorate home furniture like tables or shelves. For example, you can place a large brass bowl filled with rose petals or marigolds with tea-light candles on them for a unique display. Alternatively, you can also add a few of these flowers in a potpourri or as part of your Rangoli.

Another simple yet beautiful decoration idea for Diwali is to use water floating diyas in your living room. These are terra-cotta lamps that look pretty in any setting and come with beautiful flower motifs. They also have a long burn time of about 2 hours and 45 minutes and do not give off smoke or odor.

You can put these in the corner of your living room or on the edge of your balcony railings for a stunning effect. You can also place them on a coffee table or end table to add an element of elegance to your decor.

You can make these diyas yourself or buy them from the market in a variety of attractive designs. They can have Om or Swastik symbols, sequins, beads, meenakari work and different traditional motifs. They can also be crafted in an interesting shape, such as round, square or rectangular.
